The stairs down to the underground theatre, (which, as Gabriel soon discovers, is referred to colloquially as the Cave), are wide, and quite crowded. Gabriel’s accommodation at Harvard is not badly appointed. His father has paid money to have Odin allocated a small room opposite that of Gabriel himself, instead of lodging him in the servant’s quarters. The room is on the second floor of the King William Building, and most of Gabriel’s clothing is in the wardrobe provided; all his other accoutrements, including a violin and several books which are clearly for light reading only, are scattered in half-open suitcases across the floor.
